Disney Bros Cartoon Studio Square Block Party and Call for Mural Submissions!

Disney Bros. Cartoon Studio Square Mural Commission  

The Los Feliz Neighborhood Council is celebrating the first anniversary of the Disney Bros. Cartoon Studio Square at a neighborhood block party on Sunday September 21st, 2025 and want to commission a mural to celebrate Walt, Roy, and all the magical characters and stories they created there. 

Similar to our first design contest, we want to call on the many talented and artistic folks in our community for an opportunity to design a mural that will become a permanent feature at the square. 

The Disney brand is beloved by many and is also equally protected so for that reason this opportunity will be very focused on a specific set of characters and imagery. The photo of Walt & Roy in front of the square (image below), the Alice Comedies, Mickey as Steamboat Willie, and Pete (Mickey's original nemesis) are all within the public domain and free to use as you please. Anything else not within the public domain is strictly off limits for use. Remember that we want to celebrate the Disney brothers and the stories they specifically created here in this space so please bring your most magical spirit and create something to honor some of our favorite creators in the place they got their start. 

Some rules:

• Entries must be all original artwork/design by the person submitting 

• No use of licensed imagery or IP belonging to another person/entity including Disney, unless confirmed within the public domain and out of copyright 

• When using imagery related to the Disney Bros or their characters, please include all original source information or confirmation of it being in the public domain 

• No alcohol, weapons, profanity, or other illegal items (let's keep it clean!) 

• Design can be in full color or black and white 

• Final chosen designs will need to deliver all working files and hi-res imagery and will be fully owned by the LFNC for all usage 

• Chosen designs will not receive any monetary winnings but should provide signature and bio in order to highlight their contributions to the community 

The selection process and timing: 

• All design submissions are due to the LFNC by Thursday, September 18th 2025

• The LFNC will screen all entries and final selections will be displayed in person at the Disney Bros. Cartoon Studio Square Block Party  on Sunday September 21st, 2025 for community input 

• The final design selection will be agreed upon by the LFNC at the Monday, October 6th Cultural Affairs Committee meeting and then brought to the Governing Board Meeting on Tuesday, October 21st  

• Final design selection will be announced by Wednesday, October 22nd
